Slideshow: ForestEthics Activists “Quarantine” Dole’s Toxic Tar Sands Bananas

by Adam Gaya, US Organizer

The transportation footprint of an average banana is so large that oil should be listed as one of its ingredients.  Add forest destruction, community health threats and toxic water pollution to that banana’s ingredients if it is shipped and refrigerated with fuel from refineries using Canada's Tar Sands

That’s why citizens working with ForestEthics quarantined Dole bananas in produce aisles around the country on January 21st—to educate the buyers of the most frequently purchased grocery product that Dole’s bananas are brought to you by the world’s dirtiest oil from Canada's Tar Sands.

Check out some of the great photos from over two-dozen grocery stores, from Oregon to Alabama!

Dole’s bananas are stuck in the Tar Sands, and Dole needs to wake up and smell that growing problem, for Dole’s brand as well as for our planet.
